Championship - Police probe Elland Road row

Mon, 20 Feb 15:14:00 2012

West Yorkshire Police investigations are continuing into a tunnel bust-up that followed Saturday's derby clash between Leeds and Doncaster at Elland Road involving players from both sides.

Elland Road - 0

Doncaster striker El Hadji Diouf and Leeds forward Ross McCormack appeared to clash during the post-match handshakes and several police officers were seen to rush down the tunnel after the players had left the pitch.

A police spokesperson told Press Association Sport: "Following the final whistle at the Leeds United versus Doncaster Rovers game there was a small disturbance in the tunnel involving both teams.

"Officers swiftly dealt with the incident and there were no injuries or arrests. Both teams are working with the police and any necessary action will be taken in due course."

Leeds came back from two goals down to snatch a winner in the 10th minute of stoppage-time in a highly-charged finish.

Police questioned players and officials from both sides after the game while the Football Association confirmed it has launched its own investigation. Both clubs have refused to comment.

  2. david and davidw - as a Leeds fan I strongly object to you claming to be a Leeds fan - as always you are a Leicester fan - overspending and under-achieving and feeling the need to watch how your old mates at Leeds are doing without spending your millions. Enjoy you club whilst you can - soon be the next Portsmouth except without the recent Premier League balloon payments to give them hope of a new owner.

  4. Interesting how Post 11 here does not mention Diouf, but somehow he assumed a God-given right to defend his team-mate, I suppose. Once a scrapper, always a scrapper...

  7. I was there and saw what went on before they entered the tunnel. Doncaster were well cheesed off because Leeds came backa and won. They were annoyed because earlier we played on for a few seconds when one of their players was down. Bechio tried to calm them down(like he always does as he is a true gentleman) and went back to his position but 2 Doncaster players either side of McCormack were provoking him and trying to square upt to him. McCormack was walking away but they followed and when the final whistle went the Doncaster players carried on niggling him. The ref should have spotted this and been quicker to seperate them to avoid any trouble. I blame the Doncaster defenders for being bad sports, the ref for not taking preventative action. Don't know what happened in the tunnel but I think the Doncaster players were just waiting 'till they got out of view of the fans to have a go at McCormack. If Leeds get fined it will be an absolute disgrace - get TV footage and see how they were provoking McCormack. He is definitely not at fault.

Doesn't it mae you wonder about all the injury/extra time that is always played at Elland Road, I know of 3 to 4 games where 10 mins have been added to the 90 mins, and for the life in me cant understand why. the laws of the game say 90 minutes, not 100 mins. unless there is a very serious reason for this. And how many times just this season has Leeds scored in the 109 110 minutse or around those times. there was saturday then there was Burnley, so if any one can shed any light on why all the injury/extra time added on, when I dont think it warrants that much please let me no. Surely not every ref is so stupid to allow leeds, always when losing might I add, these extra minutes, sometimes an extra 10 of them. I just cant understand it at all, why is it when leeds are losing at Elland Road, there is always many minutes of extra time given, then just after leeds score to win the whistle is blown. surely it must stink to high heaven to some people apart from the conspiracy theory fans.
