Howe happy with forward options

Burnley boss Eddie Howe is relishing the prospect of increased competition in attack having seen Martin Paterson and Danny Ings return from injury lay-offs.

Former Bournemouth striker Ings made his long-awaited Clarets debut as a substitute in last week's 2-0 win over Barnsley having suffered a serious knee injury in training days after his move from the south coast.

Paterson made a second-half appearance alongside Ings in Friday's 1-0 defeat at Reading as he returned from a month on the sidelines with a hamstring injury - his latest setback in an injury-hit season - and Howe is eager to combine the pair with top scorer Jay Rodriguez and Charlie Austin in the coming weeks.

"It was good to see them both come on," said Howe. "They're both very much in our plans going forward and that will have done them the world of good.

"It's some more game time for Danny and I thought he looked bright when he came on, as did Pato. All four could partner each other and compliment one another which is a positive thing from my point of view."

Meanwhile, Burnley's home game with Birmingham has been rearranged for Tuesday, April 3 due to Blues' FA Cup replay against Chelsea on Tuesday, March 6.
