Blackburn manager Mark Hughes admits signing Switzerland international Johann Vogel was "an opportunity too good to miss".The 31-year-old defensive midfielder, who captained Switzerland at the 2006 World Cup, was a free agent after being released from Betis after a legal dispute with the club.

Hughes told the club's official website: "I've obviously known his abilities for quite some time. I've seen him play and he's always struck me as a very accomplished football player.

"He's got great experience as well. He's played all over Europe and had good success at PSV Eindhoven in particular. He's got a winning mentality and that has been evident in the couple of weeks that he has been with us."
