Nicholson could be lured by cup win

Thu 20 Mar, 10:30 AM

Aberdeen midfielder Barry Nicholson has revealed winning the Scottish Cup could persuade him to sign a new contract and stay at the club.Nicholson has so far rejected all offers to sign a new deal at Pittodrie and could leave for nothing in the summer.

But the former Dunfermline man says success in the Scottish Cup could convince him to pledge his future to Aberdeen after the Dons booked their place in the semi-finals with a shock win over Celtic.

He told the Daily Record: "Results like this and getting to Hampden makes things a little bit harder for me.

"The manager is going to be in a position to make an announcement soon but I haven't made a decision about my future yet.

"I said when I signed for Aberdeen that I wanted to win things and that's how Jimmy Calderwood sold it to me.

"Of course my future is not sorted yet but if I am leaving then it would be nice to lift the trophy and have a winner's medal to show for what's been a great spell for me.

"Winning the Scottish Cup and qualifying for Europe might influence my decision about what happens next season."
