BREMEN, Germany (AFP) - Germany midfielder Torsten Frings is on course to play for his country in this summer's Euro 2008 after it was revealed on Thursday he is set to make his return from injury this Sunday.
The 31-year-old Werder Bremen has had a wretched year of knee injuries, but is expected to make his first appearance of the year at Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday in the Bundesliga.
"We will discuss the situation with Torsten at the weekend and see if he is able to compete," said Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf.
The midfield general, who has 70 caps and is set to star at Euro 2008, re-injured his right knee in January and has made just three league appearances for his club all season.
In his absence, Werder Bremen have slipped to fourth in the Bundesliga and suffered two worrying defeats when they were humbled 6-3 by VfB Stuttgart and 1-0 by Wolfsburg in the last two weekends.
