Rovers Move Up To Fifth

Thu 20 Mar, 11:09 PM

Chris Greenacre scored one penalty and missed another as Tranmere beat luckless Port Vale 2-0 to move back into the play-off places.

The visitors played with tremendous spirit and gave as good as they received in the opening half, although Ian Moore almost broke the deadlock after 19 minutes but his shot from close range was kicked off the line by George Pilkington.

Tranmere began to turn the screw in the second half and substitute Jennison Myrie-Williams made a big influence when joining the action in the 59th minute.

And he was judged to have been impeded inside the box in the 68th minute by Paul Edwards and although it looked to be a dubious penalty decision but Greenacre made no mistake as he sent Joe Anyon the wrong way.

Greenacre should have made it 2-0 in the 84th minute when Vale conceded another penalty this time when Jason Talbot floored Myrie-Williams, but his spot-kick hit Anyon and went over the bar.

But Tranmere made sure of their 11th home win two minutes from time when Moore raced clear to net from an angle to leave Vale rooted at the bottom of the table.
