Genoa are desperate to secure Marco Borriello's services on a permanent basis, after the on-loan striker scored a dramatic equaliser in Wednesday's draw with Inter.
Chairman Enrico Preziosi plans to initiate talks with AC Milan next month, with a view to bringing Borriello to Genoa on a long-term deal.
The 25-year-old, who has scored 17 times for Genoa this season, came on as a second-half substitute to earn his side a deserved point against runaway Serie A leaders on Wednesday - reacting quickest to Doni's palmed clearance and acrobatically firing home.
"It was an absolute jewel of a goal," said Preziosi. "What magic! After Easter we are going to start negotiations. We want to make him a Genoa player."
Borriello, who made his debut for the Italian national team against Portugal in February, was not best pleased at Gian Piero Gasperini's decision to rest him from the starting line-up.
"I am sure the decision was taken in the best interests, but I was disappointed a bit," he said.
"I accepted the decision and then I came on and scored. Hopefully it won't happen again, though."
As he basked in the glow of another impressive performance, the striker earned high praise from Inter coach Roberto Mancini.
"Borriello has always had the talent, even as a youngster, but it is only now that he is able to play constantly and he is doing very well," Mancini said.
