Guus Hiddink could return to Chelsea in November if Russia fail to qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals and "choose another direction".
The Dutch coach has won six of his seven games since taking charge of the Chelsea squad last month.
Hiddink agreed to replace sacked Luiz Felipe Scolari until the summer after the Russian Football Union allowed him to combine both roles.
Several members of the Chelsea squad have since urged the Dutchman to extend his stay but so far the 62-year-old has remained steadfast in his desire to resume his full-time duties with Russia at the end of the English season.
However, Hiddink said there is a clause in his agreement with Russia allowing him to leave if he fails to lead the nation to the 2010 finals in South Africa.
"I will focus on Russia after this project but people say, 'Think about it, stay'," said Hiddink. "I enjoy it with the Russians but I do have a clause that says we can stop in November if Russia don't qualify.
"Then, the Russian FA can choose another direction and I would also be free to go."
Hiddink's Russia are currently second in World Cup qualifying Group Four having lost one of their three games.
They lie four points behind leaders Germany with a game in hand and face the group's whipping boys Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein at the end of this month.

Hiddink says he won't leave Russia but if he isn't sacked at Chelsea he will let them fail to qualify for da World Cup so he can go to Chelsea as permanent manager
this article has nothing to do with liverpool or man united, yet the same comments from obsessive supporters of these clubs keep cropping up...along with, of course, donny, how's it going pal?

Well I hope if he stays at Chelsea, he does as well as Jose Mourinho
comment 25, You may beat Mancheaters,...Liverpool? Forget!!!! Your team is very old to cope with Liverpool's pace!!!
To us at MAN-U, whether he stays at chelsik or goes back to russia no problem,
he's just one of the many pawns that abramovic is currently using. all the
titles are ours..not so Sir Fergie?????????????
BEL pa zed
who gives a @#$%
Russia will easy qualify if they only have to beat pub teams from Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein !
Even the commedy England team should be able to manage that :-)
The real problem is Abramovich is running out of roubles and his team is loaded with middle aged former stars like Lumpy Lampard, perennial bench warmer Cole, Ballack and Drogba all of these players urgently need replacing and it ain't gonna happen :-)
And what happens when Russia qualifies?
OK good then he is staying with RUssia! :) YAY
i cant wait to see liver pool smashed by chelsea and united next season
Stay and get your own trashing next year from Liverpool

Abramovic doesn't have to bung the Russian football fed a "backhander".... Abramovic IS the Russian football fed !
....Oh, forget all the fuss! let's sincerely hope that Hiddink DOES get Russia into the 2010 World Cup, and ends his Chelski uncertainty. No doubt, Abramovich bunged the Russian football fed a "backhander" to secure Hiddink for the remainder of this season.....and will probably try another one to get him back next season......
Abramovich doesn't care who his team Manager or Head Coach is - so long as they stay in the top 3, get back into the champs league, AND win something by the end of the season. And do they have to grovel to Abramovich or something too??
HIDDINK IS A GOOD MANAGER. I HAVE DEFINETLEY SEEN AN IMPROVEMENT SINCE THEY SACKED SCOLARI.
They've all got "clauses" haven't they.....rotten to the core the lot of them
Leslie m dont you read the article before you comment?
Abramovich has the biggest say as far as the russian F.A is concerned in any case, it was him that put put Hiddink in the Russia job in the first place!! There's absolutely NO WAY Hiddink will be leaving Chelsea if Abramovich wants him to stay, especially if they win silverware of any kind this season.
Hiddink is making all the right noises about staying with Russia because he's currently under contract and that's the correct thing to do, but ultimately Abramovich wants him at Chelsea and one way or another that's where he'll end up.
Just wait till he loses the Champions League and the EPL .Chelsea will soon be talking about another coach. As history has proven coaches are only loved when they win games. At the moment Chelsea fans and management are loving Guus coz he has won 3 or so matches with them. But can a coach be deemed good after only three matches ??????????
WHY DAT HEVERY MAN IS SAY WORD "FACT" EVEN MONKEY NOW SAY WORD "FACT"
