Fallon attacked by rival horse's owner

Reuters - Sat, 20 Mar 20:21:00 2010

Former champion jockey Kieren Fallon was assaulted by the owner of a rival horse in a fracas after the second race at Lingfield Park on Saturday, according to a stewards' report from the Surrey track.

Kieron Fallon - 0

The incident, which has been reported to the British Horseracing Authority, happened when Fallon was unsaddling from his mount Elna Bright.

The 5-1 chance had finished last of 10 after being struck into by another horse early on and losing his action.

The incident in the unsaddling enclosure involved David Reynolds, the joint-owner of 3-1 favourite The Scorching Wind, who finished second last after struggling in the rear throughout.

"He (Reynolds) came at Fallon like a whirlwind and struck him on the side of the face," said Elna Bright's owner Peter Crate.

"I got in there with (trainer) Brett Johnson and he caught me too, before the racecourse security stepped in."

Part of the stewards' inquiry report read: "It had been alleged that David Reynolds, the part owner of The Scorching Wind, had assaulted Fallon and Crate and been involved in a fracas with Johnson.

"The stewards subsequently called before them Reynolds, who admitted to assaulting Fallon and being involved in a fracas with Crate and Johnson.

"Having heard evidence from the various parties, the stewards referred the matter to the British Horseracing Authority."

The 45-year-old Fallon completed his three other rides for the afternoon, winning on one of them.

The Irishman returned to race riding only last September after serving an 18-month drugs ban. In 2007 he was cleared at the Old Bailey in a high-profile race-fixing trial.

  5. I'LL TELL YA WHY- Cause Fallon caused Reynolds to lose 3 years ago with a different horse Cognasatatu. Same disgraceful "accident" that Fallon keeps doing by tripping up the horse that is favored. That Fallon is a crook!

I know more about horses than you will ever learn. I run a livery yard where I look after 20 sports horses, 4 of them belong to me, two I have bred from mares I owned for 20 years so back in your box pratt.

They are not raced and they are not even backed until they are 2 years old and then gradually built up for the work they do, which is mostly 3 day eventing, a mix of flat work and jumping. They have a working life of 16 years and thats something no racehorse will ever achieve because they are burn out by 8 yrs old if they last that long.

When I compete, If I continued to ride a horse that had pulled up lame, apart from being disqualified I would most likely be banned from competing, and rightly so. The horse would be cared for and brought back to full fitness before it was used again, often months later ( I have the vets bills to prove that) unlike racehorses that are "disposed" of as soon as the chances of them winning are gone.

I have a couple of ex racehorse on my yard that belong to young women who were talked into buying them or rescued them from the knackers. They are just a constant drain on the owners resources as they will never be fit again.

If you think you know so much about racing, here is a little exercise for your little brain....Research pin firing of hocks and tell me where this barbaric and illegal practise is carried out ?

  8. @wrenn, re your comment 'Horse racing is cruel, where else would you get away with taking a 2 year old animal who's bones haven't even fully developed and stretching it to its physical limits then when it fails, turning it into dog food.

Its all about money, and Pikeys do anything for money'

Have you ever been to a race meeting? Or even been to a farm where they keep horses?

For a start the jockeys, trainers and fans are not pikeys, as you allege. And your ignorance of the treatment of young horses is clear. Try getting out a little and watch their natural behaviour before foisting your ill-thought opinions on the reading public.

  12. Fallon should be investigated and charged for riding a horse lame and not getting off it,but instead he rode it back to the enclosure, thats just animal crulty. Fallon is just a horrible little man that gives racing a bad name!!!!!

  13. Fallon was to blame, the horse that HE was riding struck into another horse(his fault he was steering the horse),however instead of pulling his horse up (because it was INJURED & lame),the lazy bas***d rode all the way to the unsaddling enclosure on it's back, this is what they should hold an inquiry into. Now don't go on about how good fallon is,if you lived in Malton you would know what a job prat he is,always getting into fights & drunk as a scunk,as for being a gentleman, just ask his poor ex wife, kick you when you are on the floor that man would make no mistake about that.

  19. As I saw it Fallons horse went lame & interfered with the Reynolds owned horse, unavoidable accident
Reynolds probably bet more than he could afford and acted like a drunken yobo. The B.H.A will deal with
this incident possibly declare him disqualified which means he will be barred from all race courses &
    racing establishments
