Buckley blasts sloppy Mariners

Sun 20 Apr, 07:15 PM

Grimsby manager Alan Buckley blamed his players for making "elementary mistakes" as they threw away a lead to lose 2-1 at Bradford.A stoppage-time goal from Bantams winger Joe Colbeck robbed Grimsby of a deserved point after Peter Till had given the visitors the lead in the ninth minute.

Grimsby also had a goal disallowed for offside when Ryan Bennett helped substitute Nick Heggarty's goal-bound shot into the net four minutes before the interval.

Buckley said: "I am concerned at the way we gave away the two goals. These players have been making elementary mistakes for a long time. We let ourselves down at vital times.

"I thought we started quite well and controlled the first half and scored a well-taken goal. We were comfortable up to half-time - no problems.

"I spoke to the referee and he told me that if Bennett had not touched the ball he would have given a goal. I thought that at 2-0 it would have been game over, but then we gifted Bradford their first goal when Tom Newey decided to play back with his right foot on a terrible angle and left the keeper short."
