Mansfield boss Paul Holland declared hat-trick hero Michael Boulding had "come up trumps again" after his side kept their survival hopes alive. The Stags, four points adrift at the start of play, could have gone down if results had gone against them and things looked desperate when goalkeeper Jason White spilled a Marc Pugh shot over the line.
But Boulding equalised and put the home side 2-1 up in the 37th minute before adding a third in the closing stages.
Holland said: "Mickey Boulding was superb. He was not 100% fit and hasn't trained for two weeks.
"But he ran himself into the ground and it just shows that with quality, if you leave him until the last minute and play him he will repay you. He has come up trumps again for us.
"We will enjoy this result - and others have gone for us for a change - but we have a lot of hard work ahead of us still."
