Le Lay was the outright winner from Latvian Aleksejs Saramotins (Rietumu Bank-Riga) and French countryman Remi Pauriol (Crédit Agricole) after attacking eight kilometres from the finish.

"During my attack I felt that the sprinters were not far behind me, so I gave everything," he said afterwards. "I am very pleased to win here.

"The Tour du Finistère is the round of the French Cup that best fits my skills."

Le Lay completed the 189.5km course in 4:30.02, comfortably ahead of the pair, who were in turn 12 seconds faster than the peleton led home by Venezuelan Jackson Rodriguez (Serramenti PVC).

Five Frenchmen - Geoffroy Lequatre (Agritubel), Arnold Jeannesson (Auber 93), Yann Huguet (Cofidis), Jerome Coppel (Francaise des Jeux) and Pierrick Fedrigo (Bouygues Telecom) - were behind him.

2007 winner Niels Brouzes was 18th in this year's Category One contest in Quimper.
