A brief look at how the managers reacted after a busy weekend of Premier League football, with Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill over the moon with his side's derby destruction of Birmingham City.

Aston Villa 5-1 Birmingham City

Martin O'Neill: "I thought we played brilliantly. We are a really decent going forward. Ashley Young and John Carew were both absolutely outstanding. Ashley couldn't have done any more in front of Fabio Capello. We're still there fighting for the UEFA Cup. We're in full flow and the Everton game is a massive one for us."

Alex McLeish: "We were on the end of a bruising from a really good Villa side. Villa's front men were on fire and we were unable to string any passes together until the second half. You have to say that Villa's agenda is totally different to our's - the bottom line is that they are a better team. It's all about our next three games - we have to take as many points from those games as we can. This match doesn't mean we're going down."

Newcastle United 2-0 Sunderland

Kevin Keegan: "It wasn't a classic. We never really got going as a team but the fact we won it tells you we have players like Michael Owen who can get us something. The scoreline of 2-0 was maybe about right but Sunderland fans might say it slightly flattered us."

Roy Keane: "We gave two bad goals away. We got better in the second half but the game was probably over at half-time. We lost three players this week but you can't make excuses like that. I thought we were strong enough to get a result but we gave them a helping hand in terms of goals we gave away."

Manchester City 3-1 Portsmouth

Sven-Goran Eriksson: "I think we played a very good match. Benjani was working very, very hard and missed some chances but at the end he scored an important goal for us, he deserved that. I think it's great for him to score against Portsmouth as well."

Harry Redknapp: "We gave two terrible goals away and had a mountain to climb. We got a goal back to get back into the game then had a man sent off, and even then we had chances. I felt we should have had a penalty when Defoe was fouled. Then we hit the post. There were chances galore, and we gave a poor third goal away."

Fulham 0-2 Liverpool

Roy Hodgson: "I thought we matched Liverpool - one of the best sides in the country - most of the way. We paid for a couple of mistakes at the back when the ball was despatched powerfully into our net and we didn't take our own chances. Of course I'm disappointed and I won't make a fool of myself by making outrageous claims - but until it is mathematically impossible for us to stay up we will fight on."

Rafa Benitez: "Every manager has a responsibility for his team selections in every game and I also have a responsibility to use my squad. I picked a team I believed could win the match, we now need after this win just one more point to ensure fourth place in the league, even if Everton win all their remaining games. We've still got to be careful. We needed a good job done today and a good job was done."

Blackburn 1-1 Manchester United

Mark Hughes: "We had a gameplan and if we implemented it we knew it would cause them a problem. We're disappointed that we have not seen it through to finish but it was a good performance from everyone. All in all, it was a great performance but we're disappointed not to have got all three points. We'll pick ourselves up and that performance and result will help us with our remaining games."

Alex Ferguson: "We deserved three points. Our performance in the second half was brilliant. The tenacity and passion they showed was brilliant. We could have had three penalties but we should have won the game anyway. We were very unlucky not to have won this match. It will be a fantastic game [against Chelsea]. Wayne [Rooney] got a knock on his hip but hopefully he'll be okay by Wednesday [for Barcelona in the Champions League]."

Arsenal 2-0 Reading

Arsene Wenger: "We are still ambitious - we have 74 points and want to finish with 83 points which is a decent total. We want to finish off as close as we can to the winners of the league. We showed pride and responded after the disappointment of last week. We have to bounce back because the strong always come back stronger. We have a very young team with a great future."

Steve Coppell: "When they scored their first goal it was always going to be a mountain for us to climb. We have a three game mini-season and must aim to get enough points to stay up. There are nine points available to us and we have got to be genuine in our attempts to get them."

Middlesbrough 0-1 Bolton

Gareth Southgate: We had enough chances to have the game under control at half-time. Our attitude was right and we were up for it and were the better side for 45 minutes, but their keeper kept them in it and they have him to thank. In the second-half, Bolton came flying out the traps and we never threatened them. We weren't clever enough with our football. Until you are mathematically safe you have to be ready for every eventuality and we have to respond to this defeat."

Gary Megson: "Today was not a classic performance and we set off poorly. We were fortunate to go into half-time at 0-0. But we played well in the second-half and it really was a case of two halves. Ali (Al Habsi) in goal was superb and he pulled off some class saves. When you have a keeper who can do that, then you have a chance. At this stage of the season you roll up your sleeves and hope that is good enough and we have given ourselves a chance."

Wigan 1-1 Tottenham

Steve Bruce: "Bolton's result has given them a lifeline, of course it has. But the position is we've gone up two places in the table, so it's in our hands. If we beat Reading then we're safe, and we can't ask for anything better than that with three games to play, so it's all to play for."

West Ham 2-1 Derby

Alan Curbishley: "After losing our last three games it was important that we bounced back. There is a great lack of appreciation of what we have done this season. We have managed to keep away from the danger area. On Friday morning we were scratching our heads to see how we would put a team together. The players have done really well and looking back this has been a successful season."

Paul Jewell: "The fans have been unbelieveable and that's why we were desperate to reward them today. They have been there all season and they deserve to be in the Premier League. We hope to take them back there next season."
