Spain qualified for the women's hockey competition at the Beijing Olympic Games by defeating hosts Azerbaijan 3-2 in the final of a six-team tournament.

Captain Silvia Munoz scored her third goal late in the game in Baku to guarantee Spain, who beat the Azeris 4-0 in an earlier pool game, took the sole qualifying spot on offer.

China, Japan, South Africa, Argentina, Germany, the Netherlands, Britain, New Zealand and Australia had already qualified for the Games from August 8-24.

Two other qualifying tournaments take place over the next two weeks to decide the final two qualifiers.
