Tue 20 May, 09:15 PM

Antonio Valencia has made no secret of his desire to join one of the Premier League's big guns, but expects to stay at Wigan for next season. The Ecuador international made his loan move from Villarreal permanent in January for a fee of around £5million and went on to finish the season with 31 league appearances and three goals to his name.

The 22-year-old's fine form for Latics has recently seen him linked with the likes of Manchester United, Everton and Liverpool.

However, Valencia has told the Wigan Observer that, although he dreams of such a transfer, he is expecting to spend the 2008/9 campaign at Wigan.

"It seems that they want me to stay one more year," said Valencia.

"I feel good to be able to play in the Premier League. I hope this will help me play for a bigger team.

"If it does not happen this year, maybe next year.

"English football is very difficult. I have started to study because you have to speak English to be able to play there."
