The 25-year-old, who has previously spent two successful loan spells with Watford, is working his way back to full fitness after undergoing surgery on a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee in June last year.

Foster is behind veteran stopper Edwin van der Sar and former Albion star Tomasz Kuszczak in the Old Trafford pecking order, and is thought to be open to a loan switch to The Hawthorns in a bid to secure regular first-team football.

He joined Manchester United from Stoke City on in 2005 but has twice been loaned out to the Hornets.

Foster, who stands at 6ft 4ins, would battle Baggies keeper Dean Kiely and Czech giant Michal Danek for the number one jersey, according to The Mirror.

And Albion boss Tony Mowbray is quietly confident of getting his man as United and the Baggies have a good relationship, with former Red Devils Ronnie Wallwork and Kieran Richardson moving to the Black Country in previous seasons.
