Premier League - Bruce resigned to Valencia exit

Eurosport - Wed, 20 May 18:12:00 2009

Steve Bruce has said Antonio Valencia has probably played his last match for Wigan before a move to a major European side.

Wigan have already had one offer from Real Madrid for the highly-coveted 23-year-old Ecuador winger, but he has also attracted the interest of other clubs, Bruce added.

"It's inevitable that the lad will be leaving in the summer as there are clubs queuing up, jostling for position," Bruce told the Wigan Evening Post.

"I won't lie to fans about that. Of course I would love to keep him, but it's going to be impossible for that to happen.

"I have only worked with the kid for 18 months but he has got a special talent. He's a very good player," he said.

Bruce said a hamstring injury is likely to keep Valencia out of Wigan's last game this season against Portsmouth on Sunday.

  1. steve bruce is doing a brilliant job at wigan he is bringing in players for peanuts and turning them into multi-million pound assets for his club he then goes out and replaces them without spending loads of cash bet the wigan owners love him well done brucey thats the correct way to keep the smaller clubs from going under fantastic management

  4. once again another player using wigan as a stepping stone to bigger clubs , bruce needs to stop advertising club that way and tie the players down in contract and not release them unless the club have a replacement on the books, just look where we have finished and where we could have been if we kept wilson and heskey , we would be pushing for euro league

  7. Ronaldo was also extremely good at REAL, Top scorer for all season he played a major role in. But he was treated appallingly! Real wont ever return to the all stars they were though. Too many other good teams about that players wish to star for!
