Transfers - Gossip Shop: Milan in for Adebayor

Eurosport - Wed, 20 May 07:11:00 2009

Comparing other clubs' interest in you to being fancied by Beyonce Knowles is quite apt in Emmanuel Adebayor's case - each is a figment of his imagination.

adebayor - 0

But there do appear to be two clubs who might, indeed, be truly hoping to secure the services of the languid striker, and both are based in Milan.

Adebayor has been a master of delusion since he and his representatives woke up one morning and decided over Sugar Puffs that every club under the sun was a huge admirer.

Jay-Z may be less than enamoured by the striker saying interest from Milan is like being told Beyonce fancies you, but he probably admires his capacity for self-promotion.

For Arsene Wenger, however, enough is finally enough.

When the dynamic duo of Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport both report Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi saying "there is a good chance we will get Adebayor", then perhaps we should believe them.

It is well known that the present incumbent of the Milan hotseat, Carlo Ancelotti, is a genuine fan of the Togo international, as opposed to the admirers created by Adebayor himself.

While the persistent rumours of Ancelotti leaving for Chelsea are unrelenting, it seems that Berlusconi has taken heed of his manager's advice and will challenge for the forward's signature, along with rivals Internazionale.

The Telegraph, however, insists Adebayor will be heading to Jose Mourinho's champions, and that £24 million is the price demanded by Arsenal, who appear to have no qualms selling the 25-year-old.

The Mirror are oiling the proverbial wheels of the 'Forlan to Manchester City' potential deal, with £20m the reported fee for the Atletico Madrid 'labrador'.

The Sun have decided that because Carlos Tevez failed to attend the club's end-of-season dinner, that he must be leaving, even though the Argentine was most probably blitzing an evening session on the treadmill with his tongue hanging out.

Stewart Downing, Tuncay Sanli and Afonso Alves will all leave Middlesbrough the very second they are relegated - if that indeed happens - according to the Daily Mail.

If the Teesiders do suffer this plight, the trio will be literally penning contracts, taking post-match medicals, and borrowing David Wheater's phone to finalise transportation - if the paper's speculation is to be believed.

The same paper also states plainly that Wigan and Real Madrid have decided on a fee of £21.5m for winger Antonio Valencia . You can picture Dave Whelan ordering a choice bitter from Florentino Perez's mobile bar, if all goes to plan.

Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has also been linked with a move to the Bernabeu if Perez returns as club president, with the Star reporting that £21m would be an appropriate amount.

Barcelona wonderkid Bojan Krkic will be on his way to Glasgow, with Celtic reportedly agreeing a loan deal with the Spanish giants.

Krkic would do well to adopt a cautious approach to negotiations: the last prodigious talent to leave the Nou Camp for the British Isles, Giovani dos Santos, ended up at Portman Road.

Which brings us not so neatly to Tottenham, who the Mirror speculates will sign Lazio striker Goran Pandev over the summer.

While Harry Redknapp is at it, he will - apparently - dip his toes into the giant Edin Dzeko pool, with Wolfsburg understood to be willing to sell the Bosnian forward.

The Daily Express argues that Spurs owner Daniel Levy will instead be asked to bank-roll an £8 million deal for Celtic's combative midfielder Scott Brown.

Presumably Bhoys manager Gordon Strachan will not be too happy to see his player of the year jump ship.

Red Bull Salzburg left-back Ronald Gercaliu has reportedly given Celtic the come and get me line of "I'm flattered to be linked". Whether more will comes of it is anyone's guess, including Gercaliu's.

Bruno Aguiar's extended flirting with both Old Firm clubs has led Ajax to enter the fray, according to various sources, while Hearts will turn their attention to Darlington striker Pawel Abbott.

Relegated West Brom are heavily involved in the market already, with Paul Robinson set to leave for Bolton, while unsettled Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson may seek solace at the Hawthorns.

And finally, Championship winners Wolves are reportedly competing with Wigan for the signature of Portsmouth's contract rebel Sean Davis, with a bid also lodged for Standard Liege centre-back Oguchi Onyewu.

  3. I'm not suprised that players like Adebayor want to leave Arsenal after all what true fan boo's thier own players. It's happened with Eboue, Bendntner and Adebayor this season and of course a player is going to suffer with a loss of form or lack confidence if everytime they touch the ball they are getting abuse. I think there will be a few players leaving Arsenal during the summer and considering they don't have the funds to replace them it looks like the fans have will be booing djorou, Song and Diaby next season !!!!

  4. Adebayor is unadulterated @#$%. Even last season, he wasted so many clear goal chances but Arsenal could afford it as it was more inventive then. When was the last time you saw him put in a decent shot from distance off his foot? Truth is he cannot shoot but only waits for taps-ins off a perfect pass after his team mates have done all the hard work. The last time he tried a shot in the Champions League against Man U, his shot ended closer to the corner flag than the goal post (and that was his only shot in the game). All he has going for him is his height. Even Bendtner heads better. Ade is lazy and selfish - he doesn't even want to celebrate a goal unless he is the one scoring it. He's incompetent as well - give him the ball and he is either offside, promptly loses it or makes a totally useless square/back pass to his team mate. He is not inventive unlike v.Persie. In one-on-one situations, I always fancy the goalkeeper. He was most pathetic recently when he dived after he lost the ball on a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. PLEASE GO Ade! Hope there are clubs stupid enough to buy him. Even Man City is not that dumb.

  10. we really should have cashed in on him last season as he has a poor season and we will get nowhere near the amount of last year i will be glad if he goes as he makes to many silly mistakes and is not a big enough threat if you lose henry you gotta replace him with someone similar and ade is nowhere near put theo in his proper positon and see what he produces but please do NOT let him be here next season

  11. signing to make Arsenal challenge ManU next year
In: Gourcouff from Ac Milan(Bordeaux),Kalou (Chelsea), Taylor (New Castel)and Im still scouting for an anchor in the midfield. If we I cant find any "cheap" one, then Ill keep Silvestre and push Djourou into that position.
Out to balance the book: Adebayor, Silvestre, Diaby

  16. Thats is why i said FLAMINI is the man. He can play either midfielder or defender. Both position is really needed. Flamini is very good in that position..

  17. Ade is good but his attitude lacks whats needed. He could be a legend for us but instead he's a bit 50/50. I dont think its anything physical, i think its totally mental. he just doesnt have it for Arsenal and he should go somewhere else for us and for himself. 24 mill would be rather good. definitely be able to bring in a new defender and mifielder.

From Tom, on Wed 20 May 10:58AM
  18. wenger........ please let adebayor go. Hehhe.. And get flamini back from milan. With flamini and fabregas in our midfield, SURELY there will be trophy....

I also think that Arsenal as a whole should start trusting english players. This policy of always buying foreign players is not very good. See how they spoil the league with their diving and cheating attitudes? We need good players from english soil. Liverpool is loaded with spanish players, Arsenal with French players, Chelsea with losers!!! Only Man United tries to makes the difference (although that old mogul is such a threat to refs)! Get rid of Gallas, Sylvestre, Sagna, Djourou and putin some good English skippers! Also take off that long mosquito called Adebayor and send him back to France where he came from!

  20. That'll be a very good riddance! First, he is such a bad player and was wrongly attributed the African Golden Ball. Second, he is such a loser that he does nothing for the team. Third, his English is one of the worst I have ever heard. Lastly, he will mess-up with Milan and they will kick him off.
