Leeds midfielder Jonny Howson has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new contract until at least 2011.Chairman Ken Bates and manager Gary McAllister were keen to recognise the youngster's performances, and the contract will be extended by a further year if the club is promoted to the Championship.
"We're all delighted," McAllister told the club's official website. "He's a player who has come through the academy and is a local lad which is a big plus.
"He has an eye for goal and he has a nice mix to his game.
"He has a lot of potential and ammunition to develop his game and I'm pleased I've got the opportunity to help his development."
The 20-year-old made his debut for the club against Barnet in the Carling Cup in September 2006 and has scored five goals in 46 appearances.
