Farfus leads field as BMW rule practice

The field was again dominated by BMW during the WTCC second practice session at Brno, Czech Republic.

On a rapidly drying track, Augusto Farfus set the best time of two minutes 10.994 seconds, followed by Andy Priaulx, 0.165 of a second slower.

Joerg Müller was third-fastest (2:11.581), while Independent driver Félix Porteiro set an impressive time of 2:12.387 to be placed fourth overall.

Croatian driver Marin olak was also impressive, placing himself ninth overall and second of the independents with a best lap of 2:13.105.

Mid-way through the session a dry line meant the drivers' times fell by seconds each lap. Yvan Muller and Joerg Mueller took the fastest lap from each other on several occasions until the final minutes.

Muller's best time of 2:12.631 placed him sixth fastest, with SEAT Sport team-mates Gabriele Tarquini, Rickard Rydell and Tiago Monteiro achieving fifth, seventh and eighth respectively.

Robert Huff of Chevrolet had a spell at the top spot but his best time of 2:13.151 eventually positioned him 10th-fastest.

LADA Sport driver Jaap van Lagen was a commendable 16th-fastest overall with a time of 2:13.640. His team-mate Kirill Ladygin went into the gravel at turn five after five laps and, due to receiving external aid, was not able to rejoin the field.

PRACTICE ONE

BMW cars topped the timesheet in the first practice session on a wet track in Brno, Czech Republic.

Andy Priaulx clocked the fastest time of two minutes 20.988 seconds with three minutes remaining.

In the next minute Alessandro Zanardi achieved the second-best time of 2:21.135 despite spinning at turn nine earlier in the session.

Augusto Farfus was third-fastest with a 2:21.365 followed by Jörg Müller (2:21.428) and Independent competitor Stefano D'Aste from Wiechers-Sport (2:21.510).

Rickard Rydell was the best of the rest as he achieved the sixth-fastest time (2:21.554) at the wheel of his SEAT León TDI.

The Chevrolet camp was led by Nicola Larini who posted a 2:21.738 which placed him seventh overall. Independent driver Félix Porteiro rounded up the top eight after setting a 2:21.930 in his Proteam Motorsport BMW.

Tom Coronel had problems at the start of the session as his engine was working on three cylinders. Eventually he joined and set the 12th-best time. Tom's twin brother, Tim, was 19th-fastest in his first run in a WTCC car.
