Blundell targets Chester return

Sat 20 Jun, 12:07 PM

Striker Gregg Blundell could be on the brink of rejoining former club Chester after ruling out staying with Darlington.

The 31-year-old, who made 65 appearances for Chester between 2005 and 2007, is out of contract with Darlington and has had offers from two clubs with Chester leading the charge.

"Darlington told every player they were free to leave and I didn't hang around," Blundell told the Northern Echo. "I've not spoken to their new manager and I wouldn't go back even if they made me an offer. I'm now looking for a new challenge."

Chester were relegated to the Blue Square Premier last season, but the striker has held talks with manager Mark Wright and Blundell added: "I'm hoping to have another chat with him next week.

"I'm keen to get back to the North-West and start playing again, and it's probably a case of better the devil you know.

"I've got absolutely no problem about playing for Chester again because I enjoyed playing there last time and I know all about the way Mark Wright likes his teams to play. I know all about the club's expectations in terms of dropping out of the league and bouncing back as quickly as they can."
