Celtic coach Peter Grant has admitted Nancy striker Marc-Antoine Fortune is one of new manager Tony Mowbray's main transfer targets.
The French side are prepared to sell Fortune after he impressed during a loan spell with West Brom. Working with former Baggies boss Mowbray and coach Grant at The Hawthorns may influence Fortune's decision as he ponders a move but Celtic face stiff competition from Barclays Premier League clubs.
"Marc says he would love to come here and he is a player we'd be very interested in if he was available and affordable," Grant said.
"Marc is a quality player and we were very impressed by just how well he did for us last season.
"People say he didn't have a fantastic scoring record. But look at the goals from midfield after he came in.
"The goals the other boys scored because of the way he played was phenomenal.
"Marc had a great ethic about him in his training as well as his playing. He was a privilege to work with."
However, Celtic may be priced out of a move for the £3million-rated frontman, who scored against Motherwell in the UEFA Cup last season, as Hull have already held discussions with Nancy.
Hull manager Phil Brown claimed the Tigers were one of three serious contenders for Fortune's signature earlier this week.
The 27-year-old scored five times for West Brom after joining the club's unsuccessful fight against relegation in January.

#36 I dont get to see much apart from the insides of hospitals, secure units and pharmacies, but it pays the bills I suppose, still got ma season ticket though and get to roughly 70% of the games, but back home now,at least for a while so should get to see all the games next season, thats the benefit of working for yourself, make my own hours at work
Nice one. I enjoy travelling myself. Don't get to as much as I'd like though.
Black am older than you think!!! My job takes me to lots of interesting places for years at a time, just back from a 3 year stint in hamster jam,b4 that I was in kenya, get lots of frequent flyer air miles though!!!
Bloody hell Metz you get around, where ain't you lived!!!!!!!
I pity the imports to the mutton molesters, they got no chance in furry boot city, feck I cant understand them and I lived their for twa years!!
Metz, Ha yeah, understanding the accent definitely helps!!!!!!!!
Black, when your right your right, there have been many a gud player who proved a point to those in their own country, perhaps because they had a point to prove, but, yeh, think it comes down to work ethic and possibly the ability to understand the accent!!!!!!!

On the other hand, look at the players who came up with not the greatest of reps. Like Sutton after his Chelsea disaster. Did great for us. Anyway, like I was sayin, I don't think we can really say how well a player will cope with our game based on where he was born. Maybe, from what we've both been sayin' not even on ability at first. I reckon, in scotland it comes down attitude, work ethic and adaptability, and if they have those three, then their ability will come through. Whether your French, Scottish, Irish, English or Japanese.
#27 thats what I mean, all these so called top notch players who get found out in,what is a very physical league, unless you are an animal like say Hurlock or in your case, balde they wont last a season
True. And Juninho!
Black, they may have, but only if they got gud service, besides they like time on the ball and in scotland, apart from wee jinky and the coop,no1 has that type of skill anymore, look what happened to Amato when he came? yes I know hes not french, but he came with an amazing pedigree, bit like rozenthal
Metz, I agree 'bout french league, never captured my imagination either, but your not telling me that if Henry, Zidane or Trezeguet had come to scotland they would have struggled. And before anyone has a go, I am not for one second saying that Fortune is of their calibre, but, they are french!
#23 Oh I dont know bud,Negri, perhaps the best goal scorer ever in the spl hit the ground ,b4 porinni hit him, running,Larsson another top drawer player, funny enough, neither of them were french!(as you may have picked up,I dont rate french football or players,or managers for that matter, got burned badly by PLG!!!!!!!!!!) But ,if he comes will he be the same as the others? (boumsong, mahe et al?) Dont think he will last the pace, french football not that great, look at their record in europe, and yes b4 anyone says,I know the spl clubs not that fantastic but smaller country, less cash, blah, blah, blah
Metz, yeah I know what you meant m8. But I don't think you can assume whether someone can hack it in scotland based on their nationality. I don't think any player hits the ground running in the spl. Or very few at least. The english are fond of saying how superior the epl is and they love to make fun of our league. But you ask any player who moves up and they'll tell you the same thing. There is more quality in the english pl, but its a faster and harder game in Scotland. It all depends on the individual players ability and attitude whether they can adapt to our game or not.
