Magpies to travel North for friendly

Sat, 20 Jun 11:05:11 2009

Newcastle will help Dundee United launch their centenary season celebrations with a friendly at Tannadice.

The Magpies will face the Scottish Premier League side on Sunday, August 2 (kick-off 3pm), less than a week before they meet West Brom in the first game of the new Coca-Cola Championship campaign.

It is the fourth pre-season game to be announced by the Tyneside club, who will earlier travel to Darlington and Huddersfield before hosting Leeds at St James' Park.

The club, which is still without a manager, is understood to be in the process of organising a training camp in Northern Ireland next month which could also include a game there.

  1. Come on the Tangerines. Went to Uni in Dundee too many years ago and followed Utd during my time (including see them win the League title in 82/83 at Dens Park - the two grounds are only a couple of hundred yards apart, make sure you go to the right one!). Those who can remember back that far may recal the McVities United biscuit and the advertised ditty that went with it. Everytime Celtic, Rangersd and Aberdeen cam e to Tannadice they sang the same song "There's only one United and that's a f***ing biscuit" I was disappointed that the song never travelled south to be taken up by us Sunderland fans and what with your relegation I don't suppose it ever will now!
Anyway, the prediction: Dundee Utd 2 NUFC 0

  2. Sorry Gordon, a nice thought, but we are just crpa, we would be relagated with in 2 years from the SLP, but at least you could witness the dross at our club like "Shoela Flippers Ameobi", or "Seal face Geremi", still it would get us away from the boring "Drummers of England", new grounds and better atmospheres etc, DRUM,DRUM,DRUM.

ha, ha, i suggested that myself after the thrashing Arsenal gave us last season; i mean what's the point of us, or any other club outside the self-proclaimed 'big-4', taking part - we're never gonna be able to compete with their funny money! And besides, it would be easier travelling too!

  4. Here's one for all NU fans to consider! How about applying to join the SPL - would give you a chance of qualifying for Europe every year, and although you wouldn't get the sky TV money from the championship, it would lift the intersest in the SPL to a better level, and help bust the Old Firm monopoly. You could maybe ask Carlisle to join you.

  5. Newcastle fans are the best in England and we look forward to welcoming you all to Tannadice pre-season. If NUFC get the right manager in place and let him do his work in his way, then they'll breeze the Championship next season. I am by no means a NUFC fan but I do think the Premiership will not be the same without you. 50,000 plus Geordies at every home game will give you a massive advantage over Plymouth, Blackpool, etc.
    DUFC 4ever in Scotland.
