It started well for the Clarets when their new £1million striker Martin Paterson opened his Clarets account when he rounded opposition goalkeeper Bryn Halliwell to coolly slot home.
But his effort was cancelled out in the 85th minute when Coyle's men failed to deal with a corner which let Stewart Kean unmarked to head the hosts level.
The boss told the club's official website: "It was a very pleasing workout and a highly competitive game. In the latter stages fatigue had a factor but we still worked well.
"We conceded a soft goal from a set play but having said that there were a lot of pleasing aspects about it. I was pleased with the effort but I always knew it was going to be a difficult game but overall I was very pleased."
