Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan insists he is still looking to strengthen his squad after admitting something 'definitely has to happen'.
Keegan fears that his squad still desperately needs reinforcements following the 4-1 victory over Hartlepool.
Damien Duff netted a hat-trick in the pre-season match and summer signing Danny Guthrie also scored with the aid of a deflection.
But Keegan realises he has plenty of work still to do if the Magpies are to be ready for their opening Premier League game against Manchester United.
Asked if there would be any more signings, Keegan replied: "There have definitely got to be some more in the pipeline.
"We only had two players (on the bench) today who I would call senior players with us, so that gave us a total of 12 outfield players.
"We are like a lot of clubs at the moment, everyone is waiting for something to happen. We are still looking.
"They will definitely be in by the end of the transfer window because you just can't go into the Premier League with this small squad we have got.
"But everyone is working hard and we will see what happens."

newcastle are going nowhere under ,my cashley ,who wont spend it .sack the board.
unfortunately newcastle have an owner who knows nothing about football. Now his co is suffering so will newcastle. It will be the same old toon, until they buy mega players. KK was right when he said they couldnt compete withe the big 4. With what they have they will be lucky to compete in the conference. Todays big deals revolve around money and if the club is run privately the owner is less likely to spend his own when his own companies arent doing too well either. sorry kev youll have to wait a long time to get back to the old glory days.
Hopefully this week will see some new signings come in, who have the right attitude for the team. We need to bring in some quality, old and new to strengten.
