Despite a positive bulletin from trainer Jim Bolger that "New Approach is making very good progress and is back exercising", the Derby winner is a very weak 14-1 chance on Betfair for the Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on October 5th.

He is as short as 5-1 for the race with some bookmakers, and "only" a top price of 9-1 elsewhere.

Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin observed: "For a horse that Timeform rate as superior to Montmartre, it is surprising to see the recent Grand Prix de Paris winner trading at 4-1 to win the Arc, and New Approach at 14-1.

"It appears that the Betfair layers are willing to oppose New Approach until confirmation of his well-being is shown on the track - positive home bulletin, or not."
