Manchester United chief executive David Gill is adamant Cristiano Ronaldo will not receive a pay rise.
The 23-year-old is currently recovering from an ankle operation which will keep him out of action for three months.
Sir Alex Ferguson has already told the Portugal forward he will not be sold to Real Madrid after a very public transfer saga since the end of the last season.
When asked if Ronaldo would be offered a new contract, Gill said: "No.
"He only entered into the previous contract 18 months before and in terms of where he's at in our wage hierarchy he's doing pretty well."
When asked if the player's behaviour was partly to get a higher salary from United, Gill said: "Possibly, but not necessarily, and if the figures bandied around that Real Madrid are talking about are true, we wouldn't go anywhere near that. That would be lunacy."
Instead, Gill called on the player to show "commitment and loyalty".
"The player is under contract so the strength and the rights are with Manchester United," added Gill.
"I think we've been pretty clear all along that Ronaldo has got a contract until 2012, he's a valuable member of the team and that's the situation.
"Obviously there's some issues there, but that's for Alex and is why Alex had the meeting, to discuss things and put our point of view.
"I'm sure Cristiano put his point of view and hopefully we can move forward.
"All we were doing, effectively, is saying we clearly have a player who is one of the best in the world.
"He entered into a new contract, his third with us, only 18 months after his previous one.
"With that, we believe, go some responsibilities and obligations.
"There was an increased salary and we clearly feel there has to be some commitment and loyalty and he can't just say, 'I've entered into it, but I'll leave a year down the line', especially after the season we've just had.
"It's a two-way street and contracts are entered into with a view to getting that kind of commitment."

Personally, I too, like any other "MAN.U" Supporter, to my Interpretation and Conclusion of the "REAL",so far trutworthy Facts,of "THE EPIC SAGA",about Cristiano RONALDO.From my view POINT, it is sheer "Gambling LUNACY", what D.GILL, has to say...and it IS SHEER "BAD MANAGEMENT" Decision, the STRATEGY, he is employing, to "HOLD" RONALKDO DOWN..!
FIRST and MAINLY, it's a BLUNDER, to turn your BACK, on such a MASSIVE OFFER,the BIGGEST to Date in Football HISTORY!
Secondly, they "UNDERESTIMATING" RONALDO's PULL and LEVERAGE, in World Football POWERHOUSES, the Likes of Platinni, Blatter's even BECKHAM, came to HIS SUPPORT!
Thirdly, RONALDO,is STUBBORN, and may OPT..to WARMING the Bench, along side Nevilles, Scholes and ALL the "DEADWEIGHTS" presently, DRAWING FABULOUS SALARIES...Whilst, at it !!In Other words, weather the STORM OUT,Until, AGAIN Sir Alex "SUCKS HIS NUTS", as he has NOW DONE, in his Lisbon Trip...for ..NOTHGING!
LET RONALDO GO ! Buy "NEW" Players, INVEST, on TEAM RENOVATION Fast !!and we may Get, once again to the EUROPEAN FINALS, and GLORY!-LONDON
Personall y I cant understand why any self respecting Man Utd fan would want this arrogant mercenary in the team. Its a long journey from London to Old Trafford :-) to watch someone play for your team when obviously he has no respect for the fans, mangaer or club that put him on the map! I have never liked the guy since the world cup incident but started to gain respect for him due to his amazing performances last year, but now that has all gone again! Sell him to Macclesfield for a bag of footballs, 2 track suits and a bag of chips!
Firstly contracts AREN'T about slavery, Ronaldo SIGNED the contract which means he agreed too it, if he thought it's slavery he should've bleeding thought about that before he added his signature on that contract.
I've been a Man Utd fan for years, and Ronaldo's behaviour towards the Utd fans, players, manager & staff is being dishonest & unloyal, and I totally agree with what most people have said, you simply CANNOT sign a contract and decide a year later "Oh, that's it I'm leaving".
Ronaldo owes alot to everyone at Utd even the fans, so he should respect his contract and think about maybe leaving when it ends, he's still young, it's not as if the world will end before his contract runs out.
Gill is right, basically Ronaldo can like it or lump it, God it's a tough life eh, poor bas@ard
Ronaldo is a disgrace,we wishh we could have players like torres & fabregas.they r the loyal players.and they love there teams, commitedand loyal to the fans.
Apparently if Ronaldo keeps going on about "his dream" move, SAF is going to loan him out to Stockport County for three months. Not sure if he'd be such a wing wizard at EP though.
I truly believe a player is worth what someone is willing to pay. I also believe that a contract should be honored. If players feel that they are being held as "slaves", they should not sign long term deals.
I think Cristiano Ronaldo is the best footballer in the world at this point in his career. This whole charade is about money and nothing more. If he can't tolerate his pay, I think the Glazers and Mr. Gill should sit his *ss down for the remainder of his contract, or until he changes his mind/stance/attitude.
ntumvi p he doesn't deserve it. I dont think any player should even earn 20 thousand pounds a week. it's alot of money, and ronaldo is 23 and a normal person would be earning nowhere near what ronaldo earns.
And he isn't even loyal, for him its just the money and playing for R madrid. Man u was nice too him and bought him as a teenager and to me it seems like he doesn't even care.there are pplin the world who work much harder and get payed much, much, much less!!!!
Ronaldo should not get a pay rise.
That is a slavery contract.
Dav,u guys should give the kid what he needs for he deserves it all.
