Jordan - Good Riddance To Football

Sun 20 Jul, 10:09 AM

Simon Jordan has blasted the 'arrogance' of the football world as he prepares to turn his back on the game for good.

The Crystal Palace chairman insists he has had enough of a sport he brands an "insidious, insipid, egotistical, greedy, self-motivated game", and believes the problem starts right at the top with the likes of UEFA president Michel Platini.

"Michel Platini is going in front of the European Union to identify six sports which should have a special exclusion from human rights," Jordan told the News of the World.

"But I look at it as another example of how arrogant football is - that it thinks it is above everything else.

"It thinks it's above every other worker and industry in the world - because it's football.

"When I leave football you will never see me involved in another club.

"The moment the door of Selhurst Park hits me, I will not be coming back."

The last straw for Jordan was seeing a tribunal decree that Tottenham should pay the Eagles just an initial £700,000 for 16-year-old John Bostock.

And he blasted the agents who he believes are turning the heads of youngsters in a desperate hunt for cash.

"Agents are nasty scum," he added. "They're evil and divisive and pointless.

"They only survive because the rest of the sport is so corrupt and because leading football club people employ their sons in the job.

"In my opinion, no owner in their right mind would willingly invite an average agent into his academy."

  1. When are people going to realise that Sky Television, is the main culprit the money they have put into it, so they can have complete domination of sport is abysmal, i only hope that people will stop paying their subsciptions now that the economy is on the down turn, for normal working people the Premier league is now no go. And the lower division Clubs face a very poor future.

  2. We have long laughed at the corruption in countries like Italy, Brazil and Argentina....but most of the corruption is in Europe and indeed, the english FA. I fear we, the fans, are about to pay dearly for all those fat cats wrong doings...Chelsea, Man U and arse-nil are the main culprits...there have been lots of seedy goings on within these clubs. They are all thinking of today...not tomorrow.

  3. if fans want to take control of there clubs they should stop turning up for one game a season just to let the people who run the clubs, the players, the FA, fifa, uefa know that without the fans they have nothing...when are fans going to stand up for themselves...how much more money do you want to pay these people when you only get 20 grand a year or whatever...think about it!

  4. The problem is that all clubs and players are looking after themselves. The game hasn't got a future beyond about twenty years (at most!) It's no use blaming the agents if the clubs use them to find and buy (or get rid of) players.

It's popular for the press to blame Wenger for English football's problems, but when Hoddle was england manager, and he suggested Wenger as director of football, they laughed in Hoddle's face! It's all a joke! Why wasn't Clough made England manager? Why was Venables sacked for some stupid business reason? Because historically, the game has always been at the controlling egoist influence of some jerk who doesn'r care about England and English football, but some little social or private members club. The only losers are the fans who are so totally committed to their clubs that they excuse everything that is done under their noses. What out for AFC Wimbledon, FC Uited etc. It is just the beginning for clubs like these. After the ridiculous 'slave' comments this week, and I can some geezer with a load of money plonking some heavy cash on the table of the chairman of FC United.

  5. Jordan maybe loud mouthed, orange, selfish etc but he is also right. Football is corrupt from the top. We need someone from the FA to stand up and defend English Football. If we can't trust the FA, we are buggered!!!!!!!!
