Italy coach Marcello Lippi believes Manchester United's Wayne Rooney is the model striker.
The England star was booked for a foul in the second half of United's 1-1 draw with South African side Kaizer Chiefs yesterday and substituted shortly afterwards when it looked as though he might get sent off.
But Lippi has called for his Italy players to display the same level of passion and commitment.
"What counts in football, even more than the formation, is the philosophy of the game," the World Cup winning coach told Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport.
"It's the desire of the great players to put themselves at the service of the team when their opponents are in possession of the ball.
"What Rooney does at Manchester."

4get ronney, he is a temperamental character.
ur just a plonker
White Pele? Don't think so... Pele had class, Pele scored lots of goals, Pele is a legend and will always be a legend.
WHAT ALOAD OF TOSH YOUS GUYS ARE SAYING,THIS BOY IS THE WHITE PELE
As always the finest footballers are sitting on the ditch. When any of the above can do what he do, and as well as he do. Then and really only then are you qualified to judge or knoock him.
Simple truth!!
The only problem with playing with 'passion' is that it is not easily tempered with intelligence and there is too thin a line between 'passion' and 'thuggery'. Rooney is a world class player on his day, but he don't seem to be having many good days these days, and like too many English prem 'stars' he seems to be obscenely rich on the back of a few good performances. I guess anyone would find it hard to play it intelligently when you've been the local hero since you was 10 and now you have a massive bank balance and more hangers-on than a Hollywood 'star'. By all means enjoy your moment in the sun, but remember most sport playing careers are over before 35. These lads need to ditch the Hello spreads and focus on what they are good at.
I always wonder why this Ronnie is overated. He never look to me as an established striker(or anyone knows his favoured position!).Despite his mass and being as rough as a crying loser(remember, you're playing in foreign land-south africa and not in england where you kick legs of mostly foreign players). Football has evolved into a game of mostly wise, intelligence and clever approach and not as rough as a bull. Roonie should grow up using the three new dimensions, i have mentioned. He costed england any euro2008 qualification chance by conceading such penalty in russia and yet he couldn't be a winner by scoring crucial goals at any level. M.United would have missed out any trophies had it been Ronaldo was either out of form or injured.Roonie can easily get provoked with the objective of getting him sent off. A good example is what he costed england any chance of progress against portugal in world cup2006.I personally don't rate the lad unless he changes into smart plays like the likes of Henry, Torres, Eto,or Robbie Kean, Andrew Johnson(the two later, are as physical but they don't kick the legs of oppositions!!!). Roonie, please grow up ! Don't get cheated by the Lippies, Capellos or Fergies! Wenger, Ramos and Benitez surely won't support the philosophy of the game by abusing referees or kicking especially foreign players's legs for the purpose of being passionate!
Ontario, Canada.
Rooney is Shrek. And plonker.
