Liverpool slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Rapid Vienna in their latest pre-season friendly in Austria.
Rapid skipper Steffen Hofmann netted the only goal with a second half free-kick to see off a strong Reds side which included Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Yossi Benayoun.
Sunderland recorded their second successive win under new boss Steve Bruce by beating Portimonense 1-0 in Portugal.
Half-time substitute Carlos Edwards scored the only goal after home keeper Ale spilled an Anthony Stokes shot.
Elsewhere, a Hull XI recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory over non-league side Winterton Rangers.
Tom Cairney finally broke the deadlock two minutes before the break and George Boateng doubled the visitors' lead shortly after the hour mark.
Dean Marney netted the third in the 75th minute latching onto a rebound from trialist Jerome Thomas' effort.

Gerrard, 29, is appearing before Liverpool Crown Court charged with affray relating to an incident at a Southport venue.
The midfielder was at the Lounge Inn, Southport, celebrating Liverpool's 5-1 win over Newcastle United when trouble flared in the early hours of December 29.
It is alleged Gerrard was involved in a melee in which a businessman was injured.
It seems Gerrard like Liverpool is:
GOING DOWN, GOING DOWN,
GOING DOWN, GOING DOWN,
GOING DOWN, GOING DOWN,
GOING DOWN, GOING DOWN,
GOING DOWN, GOING DOWN, Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Although pre season friendlies are just exercises in team spirit and going someway to getting match fit
you would expect the top teams to be very competitive and go all out to win.
You may criticism Owen and im no big fan of his or your bitter rivals from down the road but the results speak for them selves,
In reality I dont see anything vastly different in the Liverpool line up they certainly have not gone all out to strengthen the squad to any extent unless there is a serious change the present Liverpool team can not just rely on Gerrard alone to pull them out of mire each week.
I can see them dropping out of the so called top 4 during this season to the misguided delight of the other top teams. and like it or not the teams to watch this year will be Chelsea /Villa / Man City and as always Man U
with or without Ronaldo they are no way a spent force just yet and still looking strong.
Liverpool are just not strong enough to win the premership unfortunately as a betting man I would back ether Chelsea of Man U
sorry guys
to 28.Ben - it's only PRE season - let see what you have to say in May when Liverpool are the league champs

Scouse Muppet, what a sad example of a typical Liverpool supporter, vindictive, threatening, most of all stupid. You just embarrass yourself and your club. 'Open your inbox my arse'!

Haaaaaaaaa !
So many sad individuals, who have nothing better to do than spend their time writing abuse on here. Listen, it was a friendly - only the second preseason. The result is of no significance whatsoever --- if they had won 10-0 it wouldn't have mattered either.... .the idea is to get the players fit, and used to playing with each other. They had two different teams out in each half , the result DOESN'T MATTER. Only when the premiership starts do the results matter.
Danny J what a muppet!! You make idle little threats about being a 'hacker' coz you think it makes you sound hard (typical scouser) and you bleat on about beating us last season even though you won nothing and we won the prem and got to the champions league final. Open your eyes you stupid little turd, and stop making threats you can't carry out. You are a sad, weak PATHETIC bin dipper and your attitude is quite normal for a cretin starved of success for so long. Do me a favour - stop going on this site, dust off your black and white photos from when Liverpool were actually good and go and have a @#$% over them (that's if your wrist can handle another session so soon after the last one)

normal service from the s*it team.
Liverpool are s*it @#$% team, with a fat boss, from a cheap cr@p city.
who cares? this is pre season...bunch of young reserves lads were tried out in this game and also the last 0-0 draw to see who might be good enough to step up. pre season is not for winning. it's for getting back in touch and trying out different strategies etc. if the starting 11 played in this game the score line would've been very different.
