Forest boss launches Clough tribute

Wed 20 Aug, 05:00 PM

Colin Calderwood has launched an initiative for fans to paint the City Ground green when Nottingham Forest meet Sunderland next Wednesday.Forest take on the Blacks Cats in the second round of the Carling Cup next week.

The idea is to honour the contribution Brian Clough made to both clubs in an illustrious playing and managerial career.

One of Clough's successors as manager, Calderwood is urging fans from both sides to follow in the footsteps of the great man - by donning green.

"Anyone who holds Forest close to their hearts won't need telling about the contribution Brian made to this football club," he said.

"But I'm also aware of the massive impact he made for Sunderland as a player and feel it would be fitting for both sets of fans to honour him, especially as the fourth anniversary of his passing is approaching."

Next Wednesday's game will be Forest's first home meeting with a Premier League side in a cup competition since they dumped Charlton out of the FA Cup at the third-round stage two seasons ago.
