Martin Petrov's first half strike gave Manchester City a 1-0 victory over Barcelona at the Nou Camp in the Joan Gamper trophy on Wednesday night.
The Bulgaria winger struck after 27 minutes to frustrate an experimental Barca line-up and make it a frustrating debut for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who came on as a substitute after the interval.
City coach Mark Hughes handed a first start to Carlos Tevez up front, but Robinho, Emmanuel Adebayor and Micah Richards were all missing and Craig Bellamy began on the bench.
With Sunday's Spanish Supercup second leg against Athletic Bilbao just around the corner, Pep Guardiola picked a team made of mainly youngsters and fringe players.
Only three - Carlos Puyol, Yaya Toure and Maxwell - are likely to be first-team regulars this term.

a lot of people keep referring to this game as a "friendly" OK it's a bit of a mickey mouse cup, but it is a cup, regardless of who played and didn't play for either side, any pro footballer wants to WIN. that is what it is all about, Barca may have fielded "fringe" players, but City were hardly at full strength either, at the end of the day ,i think City winning this cup was considerably more impressive than MU winning that ridiculous "world club championship" nonsense.
COME ON billfraser...15th????...you must be having a laugh!!!... Burnley beat your lot and we beat Barcelona...i rest my case.
don.t be fooled that fergie is a fool he knows that the top 4 will not be the top 4 by the end of the season so he is cutting his wage bill now to avoid a leeds shrewd or what
Last night was the tale of 2 Bs and it was BRILLIANT!!!!!
what next
john
Barca have 2 important trophies ahead end this week and next week - therefore Pep did not push the best players to take this game at any costs. Barca are marching now for 6 trophies, so have to play easily and not to lose important players due to stupid injuries in friendlies. Visca el Barca - get all trophies this season!!!!!!!!
Well done Burnley
You're now on to do the double against Man Who
Red nose will be hitting the bottle big time tonight
one result does not make your season and it is only two games gone in the league we will see who are top of the league at the end of the season Man united top city 15th what a waste and what an arab wage bill ha,ha,
bill (dundee62000)
Time for bed now - think Ive said enough now but Barca for Champs League again and United to avoid relegation - dont let the Burnley score get you down - im sure you will stay up despite Berbatov been in your team!
For all those reds - Barca champions of europe!!!!! - we (City beat them by the way) will pay whatever we want for any player because we can! - thats why we would pay 50p for Gary Neville and 25p for Berbatov - good business although rather extravagant on City's behalf - glory glory man u as Neville throws it long long long- just like stoke!
Fanatastic - we didnt beat a Spanish team with our reserves we beat a Catalan team who are also the European Champions - actually we love Barcelona and Messi but man u getting beat by Burnley is rather great - Barcelona for the Champs League this year again and Man U avoid relegation - just! What sort of haircut is Ibrahimovich wearing - not good but would look ok at OT - jokers. MCFC OK!! Lescott for us because Moyles is an arrogant scotch t**t as usual! Join the Fergie Club!
Puta Man Uunited. Viva barca y viva Man City
Puta Real!
Oh nd we played with four of our youth team too. But really if you dont understand the difference between Castiiliano and Catalan I thin tjhat says it all.
Well then I. Just to annoy you even further. barcelona is not a Spanish team, they are a Catalan team and if you dont know that you know nowt. No Barca supprter would ver say they were Spanish, they are Catalan! and if you were genuine you would know that
Good solid result - United lost to BURNLEY and we stay 5th with a nothing victory against BARCELONA - back of the net - hope we all topped up our tans!!!!!
@ #2, I'm a die hard madrid fan, and I would rather die than be a man u fan. Eventhough I'm a madrid fan, I still will support the Spanish teams against english teams, because I hate english teams, all they do is defend and play boring football, like we saw at this match. Barca dominated the whole match, even with their youth players, and man city defended for their life the whole match, like they were going to with the CL.
and we played with 4 of our acaedmy players. get real I mean really get real
stand_up4madrid
Dont make me laugh, Rea Madrid fan your Manchester United. No Real fan would stand up for Barca
And you dont know anything about the civil war only Burnley
Pathetic
I have been a part of catalunya for 25 years!
Come on City!
So what, man city got lucky. I'm a madrid fan, but I still have to admit it, that Barca played great, and they completly dominated man city with their youth players. Hats off to Barca.
