Fernando Alonso is set to stay at Renault for the 2009 season after reports that the Spaniard has rejected an offer from BMW Sauber.
Speculation at Monza last weekend where Alonso finished fourth suggested the BMW team were in the driving seat to sign the Spaniard.
But Spanish sports daily As reported Alonso would be staying put with Renault as the BMW offer shut out any hopes he might entertain of a possible move to Ferrari in 2010 or 2011.
Alonso has struggled to make an impact this campaign, the 27-year-old trailing in seventh in the championship race dominated by Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa.

I am pleased Fernando is staying at Renault. After last years performance at Maclaren. It's a shame he didnt stick it out with the Renault team then. Maybe just maybe the car would by now be first class winning formula. Now however the team has to start from scratch to work on the title once again.. Fernando is still a top driver and with a csr to match can resume world champion.
I hope Alonso does well next year, he's a great driver. But he's going to have to work hard to shed his current image if he's going to get a top drive, unless of course Renault come good again next year.
ginger,
Quite right! This season has been a good one and I expect another suprise or two before the last race, but next year should be a great one. All the drivers you mentioned should be in the hunt, and with the aero/tech changes, it should be a great season for the fans. On your comment #101, unfortunatly, you are right again! Last year, Alonso had the championship in his pocket and even had a young teammate enthuiasticly willing to help him get it. It turned out to be one of the most depressing stories in sports and the aftermath is no better. If Alonso, who is a truly gifted driver, blows it at Renault, I'm afraid he may end up sitting in a Force India and not understanding what went wrong.
Racehound and Jessy M: It would be appreciated if you could form a coherent and intelligent argument as to why you disagree rather than mindlessly spouting off.
Tiffosi: LH v KR v FM v FA v RK would be great. But, next year Heikki should fair better, and if Kubica has a car to compete with you can't rule out Heidfeld. Williams are proven winners so there's no reason why Rosberg could be up there too. And we all know that Vettel is good enough, so its up to Red Bull to give him the car, and if he's got the car then so has Webber, who isn't exactly a slow driver either. That's potentially 10 drivers who could be up there and F1 hasn't seen that since 1982 when Keke Rosberg won the title. Time will tell if it will be that good, but if the new regulations do what they are supposed to then we could be in for a real treat as F1 fans.
I think this is a good move for Fernando. I'll b willing to bet that they're on the podium a lot more next year with a couple of wins as well.
Post 101, stay where u r in Mars. Ur mouth is full of thrash.
@posts 108 and 109
I think Robert Kubica doesn't sound too bad with 'F1 2008 champion'
igbinaduwac....post 103.........wtf areyou on about you plank???? total tripe!!!!!!!!
What is an invalid comment?
ginger gitt ...post 101.......what a load of rubbish!!! ha ha ha ha ha
acedrumsnyc, change Lewis Hamilton to Felipe Massa and you will be correct!
Lewis Hamilton. Formula 1 2008 champion
Is anyone actually talking about Alonso at Renault or is it just Ferrari vs Mclaren? Next year Alonso could well be fighting for the championship in a Renault (again), which would be fantastic to see, it could even turn into a four way fight if BMW are up to scratch. Imagine, Hamilton vs Massa vs Kimi vs Alonso vs Kubica! Epic!
wac ``` 103 `` your generosity is quite overwhelming == you explained the solution yourself
This will be a crucial race for the championship and rightly so! New course, night race, possible rain set ups or dry? This sounds like what a championship race should be! Can't get much better than this!!! I would love for F-1 to go to a "new" street circuit every year just to make it fresh for the fans, drivers and teams. No previous data to go on, no tire company data, just a new course and lets go racing boys! I have been looking forward to this one. GO Massa! I think Kimi might be ready for a little resurgance this weekend as well...The best of the rest racing should be great! Hope that the TV coverage lets us see it!
Asdfaf A, I didn't get the last line....
men, I have just got a bit of something that has interest me over the whole episode of alonso?Hamilton. I'm a black man and a french citizen. So in any thing I lean on where has my interest a bit. Not to my crazy maniasm. but the fact that an impact has to make by rivalry, competitiosm and above all to avoid boringness of an issue. when Alonso was in Renault, I supported him and was his fan. not only because I'm french, but because he was set to dethrone M. schumi.I was pround Renault was making impact and love formula one to watch every w/end. until he just turn up and said he was going to Mclaren. I was so dissappointed with him and called him an ungrateful being. Not long he was in mclaren, I was supporting and hoping fisi will do renault proud. though it didn't come to be, but I got interest that he was getting a fight from a mate in mclaren which I was happy about. It is so. we should not be too enderve into fanatism. but reality is right. This guy should not be sounding racist.let him stop mobilising all the white people in the world against Hamilton. Infact I wonder while some people are racist even. Because it has no meaning. I tried to figure out the reason if even I'm a black person. I couldn't find the reason. I tried not to be bias to understand why some white people are so against black.I want to know please if anyone has a reason. Because I don't understand the propagada of Alonso and spanish press and people. The way they all support Alonso and not even borrowing a leaf from the brits & the French. They should grow fast because they are in europe and close enough to the well civilise people(French, Brits)

Thank you Vinndawg, at no point Tony do I claim Mclaren were not guilty. Your automatic assumption that I am a Mclaren fan crying their innocence helps to prove my point that some people can only see what they want to and have a very selective memory. This is especially true of Anti-Hamilton and Anti-Mclaren brigades. Ferrari fans and Alonso fans alike seem to forget that last year Fernando was supposed to be the double world champion professional racing driver that Lewis was supposed to learn from. If Fernando had behaved himself, he could have taken a third crown, taught Hamilton how to be the unflappable professional on and off the track and gone some way to cementing himself as a true great of the sport. Unfortunately, he didn't. Instead he threw hissy hits, moaned alot and now finds himself struggling to find teams that actually want him. I believe there was more demand for non-championship winning drivers like Coulthard, Webber, Rosberg and Heidfeld in recent years than there is for Fernando's services next season.
IT NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE ME IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT SUBJECT IS INTIALLY BEING DICUSSED FERRARI FANS (OR AT LEAST NON MCLAREN FANS ) ALWAYS SEEM TO ABLE TO WORK IN THE OLD $100 MILLION DOLLARS FINE MCLAREN CHEATED,ALONSO WAS HOUNDED OUT,YADAYADAYADA PLOY... JUST THINK OF ANY OTHER DRIVERS PAST OR PRESENT WHO WOULD HAVE REACTED LIKE A BABY..NONE .... SO YOU MORONS TALK OR DISCUSS WHAT THE THREAD IS ABOUT AND STOP BRINING UP THE SAME OLD CRAPOLA ITS BORING AND YOU ALL SOUND IGNORANT!
