Championship - Team of the week: Brunt leads way

Eurosport - Sun, 20 Sep 12:14:00 2009

The best of this weekend's Championship performers, with Chris Brunt returning to haunt his former club.

FOOTBALL 2009-2010 Championship West Brom Chris Brunt - 0

Former Middlesbrough player Brunt was on target twice in West Brom's demolition of their fellow promotion hopefuls at the Riverside. For his goalscoring exploits, he leads our elite selection this week.

Lining up alongside the Northern Irishman in midfield are Newcastle's Kevin Nolan - in good form in the Toon's win over Plymouth - and impressive Scunthorpe youngster Josh Wright.

A festival of striking talent was on show at Vicarage Road as both Heidur Helgusson of Watford and Leicester's Matt Fryatt netted braces to win their places in this week's elite XI. Fryatt has now scored eight times already this season - including four in his last three games.

Joining them in a strong-looking attacking trident is on-loan Arsenal ace Jay Simpson, who was also on target twice as QPR beat Cardiff 2-0.

At the back a second Baggie, Jonas Olsson, gets the nod for helping shut out Boro while on the other flank Steven Taylor impressed for Newcastle.

In the middle, Alex Baptiste was commanding for Blackpool in their 1-0 win at Nottimgham Forest while Neil Danns helped keep a clean sheet for Crystal Palace against Derby to win his place in the line-up.

Finally, Andy Lonergan is handed the gloves this week after a storming performance between the sticks for Preston, despite letting two in.
