Grenoble's match against Stade Rennes was twice interrupted by the referee after flares and fireworks were thrown on to the pitch.

There was also trouble at the Riviera derby between Nice and Monaco, where fights broke out in the stands and police moved in while the match went on. No injuries or arrests were reported.

"Our football is being held hostage by violent groups who are its worse enemies," Thiriez said in a statement.

"It is out of the question to let them continue to act. I will liaise with authorities next week to finalise measures that will allow a normal situation to return to our stadiums."
