Macclesfield boss Keith Alexander was flabbergasted by his team's feeble showing as they lost 4-1 to Chesterfield.
Wade Small, Jack Lester, Jamie Lowry and Donal McDermott had the Spireites 4-0 up at the break before Hamza Bencherif grabbed a consolation strike in the second half.
Alexander said: "Football has a habit of kicking you in the teeth, but 4-0 at half-time was unbelievable.
"I was disappointed with the first goal because I thought it was a yard offside, but we were very poor in the first half.
"We were architects of our own downfall. I don't think Chesterfield played any special football, they put the ball into the box three times and scored three goals.
"What disappointed me most was we have a good bunch of players who think they can pass the ball about well and try to play football, but, every time we got it, we gave it away."
