Martinez slams performance

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez was furious with his side's display after they were thumped 4-0 at Arsenal.

Thomas Vermaelen scored the first two goals - a header from a corner and a delightful curling effort - before Emmanuel Eboue and Cesc Fabregas put the icing on the cake.

Martinez said: "We were very poor in our performance. That was not our style at all. We did not get anywhere near the Arsenal players in the first half.

"Our starting position was wrong and there was a lack of belief. We are not normally a defensive side, but we had a slow start and that was the reason for our performance.

"I cannot not take any positives from the performance - or the lack of it."

  1. martinez needs to stop playing that useless @#$% gomez­ and put scotland or king up front, rodallega is not­ strong enough to keep the ball and gomez isn`t good­ enough to play just off the front player, give us back­ our pride roberto get shut of gomez, ps, why play­ nzogbia on the right and koumas on the left when they­ both have to cut in and play the ball with the other­ foot, get it right before chelsea or we are in for­ another good hiding

  2. With performances like that Wigan is doomed Martinez­ can take the blame as well.
    As he has let us Wigan Fans­ down big style.
    He is known for his flair in football­ play but I think he should be looking at the defence.­
    If he gets a stronger defence then it is one less­ thing to worry about.
    Whelan needs to dig deep and­ start investing in some top players.
    Lets face it in­ the last year we have got rid of some top­ players.
    Heskey,Palacios,Valencia and Cattermole, These­ 4 players were the back bone of the team.
    Whelan has­ just profited all he is interested in is stocks and­ shares and the players are his stocks and shares.
    All­ the hype about not selling his players he would sell­ his own mother if she was any good at football.
    He has­ the ordasitey to call the people of Wigan for not­ getting behind the team but it is him that needs to get­ behind the team.

  5. It's blatant to see a premiership side couldn't­ even string a few passess together. They really made­ the young Arsenal players look excessively formidable.­ Wigan players should be ashamed to receive their pay­ checks.
