Parkinson bemoans officials

Charlton manager Phil Parkinson felt his side were robbed of victory after Grant Holt's controversial injury-time equaliser for Norwich in the 2-2 draw was allowed to stand.

The Canaries completed a superb comeback from 2-0 down in the dying moments when Holt shrugged off the challenge of goalkeeper Rob Elliot to nod home Chris Martin's deflected cross from the left.

Parkinson felt the big striker had been guilty of a blatant foul and was furious when referee Steve Tanner waved away his team's protests.

"I think everyone in the ground apart from the referee thought it was a foul," he said. "You expect opposition centre-forwards to go for balls like that - but you also expect officials to make the correct decision and award a free-kick.

"The lads put in a tremendous effort and that was very hard to take - but you've just got to take it on the chin and move on to the next game.

"This is a difficult place to come to because Norwich are a decent side, and at the end of the day we'll take the point. We're still unbeaten after eight games and that's a terrific start to the season. The players deserve great credit for the way they have performed so far."

  1. Graham - since when does the dirt track surrounding the pitch constitute a foot onto the playing area? Check the video on the bbc website and you will see that you are wrong. Suggest you get your eys tested.

  2. Graham - do wake up. Your captain should not have been on the pitch and that would have affected the result. Similarly your first goal came after a foul should have been given to Norwich before the ball broke out for the corner. At the end of the day you should have only finished the game with 9 players on the pitch as your centre half should have been sent off also for persistent fouling. At to that the blatant gamesmanship by the same player who feigned injury when Norwich took a quick free kick to go through one on one with your keeper only to be hauled back as he was mortally wounded and needed treatment. A point was the least that Norwich deserved and possibly the most that Charlton deserved.

  3. You're probably right Mark, but that incident didn't affect the result & knock us off the top of the table !!! Have you seen both the Norwich goals ? 1st one came from a foul throw foot on playing area and at least a yard further forward than the incident, and how Holt's goal could be classed as a header, only the reporters know. Our keeper flapped at the cross, it then virtually hit Holt, who knew absolutely nowt about it !!
Nevertheless, we chucked it away by losing concentration, we don't want last year's faults re-appearing, but can feel pretty confident it will be sorted this time round.

  4. What about the incident in the first half where a Charlton player booted Grant Holt into row Z? Was that not a blatant foul also, Mr Parkinson? ... I guess not in your eyes, nor the refs. Not even a yellow card was necessary.
