It went for us - Sheridan

Sun, 20 Sep 12:31:51 2009

Chesterfield manager John Sheridan saluted his team after they destroyed Macclesfield 4-1 with a scintillating first-half display.

The game was done and dusted by the break after Chesterfield scored four times through Wade Small, Jack Lester, Jamie Lowry and Donal McDermott in a totally one-sided opening 45 minutes.

Sheridan said: "I have got to say well done to the players. They have trained very well all week, shown a great attitude and they've taken that into the game.

"Most people will say it was the best 45 minutes of us this season because we have scored four goals and the game was over by half-time.

"I have got players in the side who can cause problems. We've lots of pace and energy and it went for us.

"I thought we caused them problems all day and we should have scored more, but full credit to the players and, hopefully, we can now go on a little run."

  1. Beating Macclesfield Town is hardly earth shattering. They are a poor side who will struggle to maintain their Football League status come the end of the season. I am not convinced the Spireites are good enough for promotion this season. The back-four is extremely poor and the good sides in this division will expose it more times than not.

As for John Sheridan, I can see why Oldham got rid of him. If ever there was a man who is all talk and no action, this is surely the case with him. Personally speaking, I have not got a lot of time for Sheridan. He just does not live in the real world.
