Tilson hails Shrimpers

Southend manager Steve Tilson hailed the 3-2 win over Brighton as a "big achievement" and admitted he would have settled for a point.

A dramatic stoppage-time goal from substitute Francis Laurent gave the Shrimpers their first away league win of the season after Nicky Forster's first-half double had cancelled out goals from Lee Barnard and Roy O'Donovan.

Tilson said: "That is what Laurent can do, he's got pace and trickery and it was a great finish. Fair play to the lads - they have dug in and worked hard. This was a terrific result for us."

Southend had drawn five of their previous seven league games, so Tilson was even more delighted to turn the performance into a victory. He added: "It is a massive plus, and it shows what we can do."
