Exeter manager Paul Tisdale was delighted with his side's first win on home soil this season as Tranmere were beaten 2-1.
A brace from striker Adam Stansfield helped the Grecians to victory with Michael Ricketts' second-half header mere consolation for under-fire Rovers boss Johan Barnes.
"It's a relief to get our first home win because we desperately needed those three points and I am delighted," Tisdale said.
"It has been a few games now and it was about the result more than the performance. We were maybe fortuitous with the goals, but if you put the ball in the right areas, then you get the bounce of the ball occasionally and we put some good balls in the box.
"We weren't at our best, but we certainly did what we needed to do as it was all about the result. I'm not ashamed to say the last five minutes, when we had made our changes and I had shown my hand, we were holding on.
"But there was some big defending in the box and I am very, very pleased."
