Oldham boss Dave Penney was delighted to see his side finally end their wretched home run thanks to a 2-0 win against Carlisle.
Pawel Abbott set them on their way with his third goal of the season before Keigan Parker opened his Latics account to kill off the below-par visitors.
Oldham have not tasted a Boundary Park victory since Valentine's Day but their agony ended at the 12th attempt, and also lifted themselves out of the League One drop zone.
The Latics boss, who took over in the close-season, admitted: "There is still a lot of work to do but we were not low on confidence because we played quite well at Bristol Rovers last week. The difference was that we took a couple of our chances.
"Dean Brill made a couple of excellent saves at 0-0 so we got it right in both boxes and that is what pleases me.
"Right from the start we were at the races and our work-rate and tempo were first class, so it was a good performance."
