Swindon chief Danny Wilson admitted his team were lucky not to be four goals adrift at half-time in the 1-1 draw at Walsall.
The Saddlers looked like ending their poor home record when Troy Deeney took advantage of hesitancy by Sean Morrison to give the home side an eighth minute lead with a firm drive - his third in two games.
But Swindon striker Billy Paynter grabbed a point for the visitors after converting a spot-kick 10 minutes from the end, having missed a penalty earlier in the half.
Wilson said: "We could have gone in four down at half time because we never got out of the blocks for 45 minutes and defensively were all over the place. It was a complete shambles.
"But while you're only one down there's always a chance and quite honestly in the second half we could have gone on to win by two or three.
"Billy will accept that he missed some gilt-edged chances, but he showed true character in taking the second penalty. No-one knew what this referee (David Webb from Durham) was going to do. Walsall started the game lively and caused us problems. They have some very good players who will cause people problems here. But the second half was chalk and cheese and they never caused us a problem then."
