Striker Fred has said he wants to leave Lyon after being booed by his own club's supporters in recent matches.

Injury and the emergence of Karim Benzema have limited his opportunities over the last year and the Brazil international was jeered during the 2-2 home draw with Lille.

Fred almost left the club in January but opted to stay. Recent events have led him to reconsider.

"These whistles change a lot of things," said Fred. "The supporters don't want me to stay. It is difficult for me - it is hard when 40,000 people whistle at you.

"I think that I will leave, not in the January transfer window, but in June. But I won't give up trying, I want to continue working hard for the team, for the coaching staff and for myself."

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is determined to keep Fred at the club and even wants him to sign a new contract.

"Fred is a great player and I have confidence in his development here," Aulas said.

"I feel he is becoming more and more at home with us. I really hope to see him again soon so that he can extend his contract.

"And I hope this incident does not put that at risk."
