The Gloucestershire Echo quotes a nightclub doorman as saying he was racially abused by Allen and the club have placed their manager on gardening leave while the issue is investigated.

"Due to adverse reports in the press today regarding Martin Allen, the board of directors have informed Martin that he will not be required to attend work pending the outcome of an investigation into the allegations that have been reported," read a statement on Cheltenham's official website.

"Martin Allen has therefore been placed on garden leave and John Schofield has been asked to take temporary charge of team affairs pending the outcome of the club's investigation.

"At this time the club will not be making any further comment."

Doorman Garry Saintil told the Gloucestershire Echo: "He was totally out of order. When he realised he wasn't going to be allowed into the club he became insulting and aggressive.

"There were racial undertones in the kind of language he was using and he referred to me as a 'black b*****d'.

"He wouldn't accept that he wasn't going to get in. He stayed outside the club for about an hour, prowling around and staring at me from across the street.

"At one point he challenged me to come across to the car park opposite for a fight. He also threatened he was going to get someone to do me in.

"I just told him not to waste his breath. There's no excuse for that kind of behaviour. He was totally obnoxious."

  3. Is losing to Macc at home an automatic dismissal for a manager. I would like to see a statistic of how many managers last game before dismissal was Macclesfield Town, we have seen a steady flow since we joined the league. Maybe this is one table where we are at the Top !!!!
