Premier League - Sunderland lose Cattermole

Eurosport - Tue, 20 Oct 11:32:00 2009

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has revealed key midfielder Lee Cattermole will be out of action for at least 12 weeks.

FOOTBALL Lee Cattermole, Sunderland - 0

However, that has come as a huge relief to Bruce, whose initial fear was the player's season could have been ended by the medial ligament damage he suffered during Saturday's 1-0 win over Liverpool.

Bruce told the Sunderland Echo: "We think it will be at least 12 weeks for Catts.

"He's done his medial ligament. It's not good news, but it's the best we could have hoped.

"We were all praying he had not done his cruciate and damaged cartilage, which thankfully he hasn't - but he's still out for the best part of three months."

  1. downy..you have to finish high enough up the league to qualify for the champions league, which you have never done(7th your highest!!) whereas we finished runners up twice(and nearly won it) so we took a lot of pride in qualifying, do i make myself clear brain cell!! malcy boy..dont make a c ock of yourself commenting on peoples spelling when yours is equally as bad!! e.g "COREECTING"

Firstly let me help you correct your grammar, you dont "Here" anything with that spelling, you do "hear" what people are saying with this spelling, some lessons from JC or Tone as they are always coreecting peoples grammar on here.
    Secondly,
we dont think we are world beaters at all,but we have just played two of the best teams in thecountry and gotten 5 points from those games, whilst your world beating side have lost against their last two opponents,Notts Forrest and Scunthorpe.
    Thirdly,
as for beating you soundly, home and away,( and I aint talking about aussie soap operas either) by your teams standing and quality of players I would think that it would be an absolute certainty,

  5. patrick..i here what your saying mate,i know we are not a great team, but do you think we are that bad that your lot would give us a hiding?? i am not so sure,i think some mackems seem to think you are now world beaters!!as regarding the champions league,do clubs like man u, liverpool etc not look back on their history with pride, and we were proud when we competed at that level, also we are somewhere you lot know only too well(you must of liked it as you went back often enough!!)

  6. Has anyone heard how K JOnes is??? Is the injury serious or dont we know????
We know we are going to be without Cattermole fro 12 weeks ,This position can be covered ,But Jones is a massive loss as well if he is going to be out for some time????

  7. Forgive me Ian but if we played you now you can't convince me that you wouldn't be the wrong side of a hiding (home or away). My comment about the Champions League was a bit flippant, if I'm honest but I think your questions are fairly revealing. You Mags are constantly looking back at some mythical, glorious past.
The future for NUFC, with Ashley clinging on to ownership looks pretty bleak and I think your position in the league flatters to deceive. Conversely, at SAFC there seems to be some kind of plan for the future which is brighter than its ever been.
There is a grain of truth in the saying that "you're only as good as your last game". That makes NUFC pretty poor and SAFC... quite good.

  8. patrick...you mention the champions league? that would be the league you have never played in!! if you want to know about it, just ask a geordie fella!! also when was the last time you beat us soundly home and away??

  9. Toony Tony: you may laugh at Andy Reids ample frame but he reminds me of John Robertson. Remember him? A European Cup Winner with Nottingham Forest.
Champions League, here we come. Championship, there you stay.

  13. I wouldnt get too excited about the Liverpool result lads, you were helped by that rotund over inflated thing in the box (the beachball not Andy Reid) strictly speaking and going by the laws of the game it was actually a draw.

  16. Jack, yes it is nice and peaceful and its good that they have been... given a reality check. But, I can't help feeling that there's something missing from our season. Imagine if there had been the derby games - I have no doubt they would have been soundly beaten home and away.
They'll be back one day I suppose but not next season.

  17. Has anyone else noticed the distinct lack of Mags on our sites these days? why have they gone so quiet? is it beacause we are 7th in the premiership,is it because we've just took 4 points out of 2 top 4 teams or is it because they just got beat off Scunthorpe last night and their Messiah just cost their club £3.5 million ha ha whatever the reason it's nice and peacefull isn't it lads

  18. I suspect Bruce was getting worried about Catt's fitness, hence the signing of Zenden. We'll be okay, Catt will come back in the New Year fighting fit and raring to go and anyway we've still got the General,Cana,to boss midfield (and anywhere else that Bruce asks him to play).

  19. to compete at the top level you have to have great depth in your side and for the first time in my life we are starting to get that, we will be ok, dont forget other teams are suffering injurys and suspensions. ftm forever.

  20. Not good news but hey... we've got a squad.
    Good opportunity for Henderson.
Hope Jones is ok. Recover soon Catt.
