World Cup - Sven out of Sweden running

Notts County director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson has ruled himself out of the running for the managerial vacancy with the Sweden national side.

The Swede has been persistently linked with the job since it was confirmed that Lars Lagerback would be stepping down.

Eriksson stated last week that he was content with his role at Meadow Lane, but the whispers resurfaced on Monday when his representative confirmed talks had taken place with the Swedish FA.

The former England manager has long been the number one choice among the top brass in Sweden, but it would appear talks have failed to bear fruit as they have issued a statement saying Eriksson is now out of the running.

"Last week we made contact with 'Svennis', who is one of the people we thought could be a possibility for the job as national team coach," SvFF chairman Lars-Ake Lagrell said in a statement on the Swedish FA's website.

"We have had good discussions, but he has now decided that with regards to his contract with Notts County, there is no possibility of him taking charge of the national team now."

Fulham chief Roy Hodgson distanced himself from the job on Monday, after being linked at the weekend, but he may now come back on to the radar.
