Cardiff moved within a point of the Coca-Cola Championship's top two as they eased to a 2-0 victory against Coventry.
Defender Anthony Gerrard opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a powerful header from a Chris Burke cross and influential midfielder Peter Whittingham stepped up to convert a penalty after Jay Bothroyd had been fouled by Stephen Wright.
Michael Chopra came close to a third for the Bluebirds but his dink over the goalkeeper came back off the woodwork.
Clinton Morrison had Coventry`s best chance but his well-struck shot was tipped around the post by David Marshall.
