Robson sticks up for Mowbray

Tue, 20 Oct 18:39:54 2009

Celtic midfielder Barry Robson has brushed aside concerns over their start to the season and claimed it is "silly" to question Tony Mowbray's managerial credentials.

Celtic were booed off the park following their goalless draw against Motherwell after losing their place at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

"We're fine," he said. "We've played better but we've played poorer. You need to give Motherwell credit, I thought they played well."

He added: "Their manager has got them playing some decent stuff, they are quite expansive.

"I think in the last 30 minutes we could have scored a few goals.

"We missed a few clear-cut chances and if they went in we would have been talking about a decent performance."Mowbray has won just two out of seven home matches and failure to make it three against Hamburg on Thursday would seriously damage Celtic's chances of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

"It's permanent pressure at Celtic," said Robson, who made his first SPL start since February following his recovery from groin trouble.

"It's no different, we have about 10 crises a year, don't we? We're fine."

oh david we all know about the tims shame from the child abuse of the boys club in the 70s right through to jock stein not getting a job as a director because he was a protestant and of course the tims running amok on the old trafford pitch against rapid vienna attacking their players if only you tims could sweep it all under the carpet and make it vanish but that will never happen because the whole world knows about your clubs shame/ENGLISH SAM

  3. Celtic had a crappy defence last year, but the forwards were scoring more so made no difference. This year the defence is worse and unsettled AND the strikers are not scoring consistently. In each area of the park the team seems to be unsettled. A big squad with a rotation system can be good but over-rotation and it will spin out of control. Only Boruc seems to keep his place and position. Every other partnership and relationship changes every game. ie Center Defence:McManus+ Caldwell, McManus + Loovens, Caldwell + Loovens. Strikers:Samaras + McDonald, McDonald + Fortune, McDonald + Maloney, Samaras + Killen etc
MidField: Brown+Robson, Brown + Zhi, Brown + Nguemo etc. FOR THE SAKE OF THE FANS, SETTLE IT!!! Nobody ever knows who is ouside, inside, in front or behind them. Passing is a nightmare, anticipation and playing off is non existent and impossible. Mowbray is managerially naive as he hasn't worked with such a big squad and seems to be trying to keep everyone happy by giving them a game. SEND HIM ON AN ASSERTIVENESS COURSE

  6. We've been bleeding goals this season! It may just be me, but nearly every game I've gone to this season Celtic go a goal down in the first ten or 15 minutes and we end up needing to chase the rest of the match. Our players look as if they've already checked out of the SPL once we lost out on the Champions League, and some of the others (Caldwell) are only interested in top pay without putting in a real performance! The last match I truley saw Celtic play with spirit was last season's cup final.

  9. The team are performing well but the lack of goals is a serious concern. We finally kept a clean sheet on saturday but need to start taking the chances. McDonald needs to have a good look at himself.
