Premier League - Redknapp hails new yoga regime
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp says the club have been enjoying the benefits of a new yoga and pilates regime this season.
The signing of 40-year-old goalkeeper Brad Friedel over the summer has instigated a change in the way Tottenham prepare for matches during the week after the American brought his own yoga instructor to White Hart Lane when joining the club from Aston Villa.
With Tottenham competing in both domestic and European competition, Redknapp says he has been impressed with the way the methods have aided his side's preparations.
"It's fantastic. We have been getting in to doing the yoga and I think pilates is just an amazing thing," Redknapp said.
"When I started out as a manager, we didn't know what yoga was. You didn't even go on the pitch before the game. It didn't happen when England won the World Cup at Wembley.
"If it's good enough for Brad with the shape he's in at 40, then it's good enough for the rest of us. It's brilliant. It makes the players more supple. Ryan Giggs is in to it, big time. It certainly has kept him in good shape."
Midfielder Danny Rose has also given the new fitness regime his seal of approval, saying: "I'd take yoga and pilates over running up and down hills any day."
However, Redknapp says he will leave the pilates and yoga to his players after a painful experience when trying to participate himself.
“I joined in last week with all the coaches,” Redknapp said. “I couldn’t walk for two days. I don’t know what I was doing, but it wasn’t very good.
"The lady in charge tried to get my leg up and I couldn’t do it, so she lifted it, and I felt my back go. I had sciatica for the next three nights. I’m going to scrub that idea.”

Didn't Glen Hoddle or someone have them doing ballet?
Yoga is for the weak and feeble. Some may say it is demonic :)
but will the yoga help him when it comes to paying his tax
I myself am a rugby fan, but im NOT here to troll. Tottenham and redknapp are some of the only people i respect in football.
why do we have so many bloody injuries then?????
Ge'd on ya Harry......and cor jenny!
Harry, are you sure it was your leg up ? choose your words carefully. In the meantime you need two more very special guys for Ledley and Woody, go for them in the Jan sales, if we really mean to be in the top four ?????
Well, I have not been privvy to any of the training schedules for any of the teams. But I would have thought that proper fitness training as given to the Forces would be better then what we are allowed to see. All they (players) appear to do is a little bit of skipping etc. You occasionally see a team going to the Marines etc, well THAT builds a TEAM ethic. So why not adapt that rather than Yoga which is purely individual.
Of course it will never happen as the TEAM ethic has been lost, and they do not wish to have to work that hard. T E A M together everyone achieves more!! Says it all!
i thought this would be,the safest place to get away from these wanna be x factor people, but here we have some women writng about american football players is nowhere safe
redknapp - legend
I love Redknapps old school attitude and the way he accepts modern techniques
